A wage raise for public employees was unexpectedly announced yesterday by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is worried about the nation’s soaring inflation and growing cost of living.
The governor explained that the action was taken to mitigate the effects of global inflation, high commodity prices, and growing living costs.
The news was personally delivered by Sanwo-Olu to the government employees who had gathered yesterday to welcome the governor when he paid an unexpected visit to the Secretariat in Alausa, the capital.
Members of his cabinet attended the reception, which was presided over by Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, Head of Service.
Also, the governor announced a 25% pay raise for staff members of the main establishment agencies.
