Johnbosco Akaegbobi, a lawmaker in Anambra’s House of Assembly, has complained that civil servants in grade levels eight and nine in the state are paid less than N40,000 per month.
The lawmaker, who represents Nnewi South Constituency ll, made the claim during the Office of the Head of Service’s ongoing 2022 Revised Budget defense.
On Wednesday, the defense will be made before the Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation in Awka.
Akaegbobi, who is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Establishment, described the civil service as the vehicle through which government policies toward development were carried out.
He expressed regret that, despite the country’s difficult economic situation, Grade 8 and 9 civil servants were paid less than N40,000.
“Our state’s civil servants are paid far too little. Given the state of the country’s economy, they cannot survive on such monthly wages.
“Another issue is that civil servants are not promoted when they are due.” All of these mistakes are precisely why they are unmotivated to do their best. “A salary review is required,” he stated.
